CJ 6390 - Thesis I Prerequisite(s):
Department approval. Taken in the semester prior to the student’s final semester in the program. This is a capstone course for the MSCJ degree. This course represents a student’s initial thesis enrollment. Under the direction of a faculty thesis chair and two other faculty members, the student will design a study that produces a written document to address an issue or problem that concerns either a) a criminal justice agency or ancillary organization, b) the criminal justice system, or c) the causes of crime/delinquency. In the Thesis I course, the student will produce and orally defend a written prospectus (which generally encapsulates a problem statement, literature review, and methods). No credit for Thesis I is awarded until the student has completed the Thesis II course (CJ 6391 ).
