SOCW 5401 - History and Ethics of the Profession

Prerequisite(s): Admissions into the MSW program or departmental approval.
This course provides a historical overview of the social work profession, its values, and development of its professional Code of Ethics. Critical social policy in the U.S. is explored to understand the impact on the social work profession, with particular attention given to often excluded people and voices from marginalized communities, which were instrumental in advancing social justice. This course will also consider the current dynamics of the social work profession and how history may inform current professional practices.
