MIS 6318 - Cryptocurrency Fundamentals and Economics

This course explores the mechanisms, history, and impact of cryptocurrencies. It covers mining, transactions, wallet management, and legal/regulatory aspects. Students learn to analyze economic principles underlying blockchain and cryptocurrencies, token economies, incentive structures, and financial impacts. DeFi modules to cover decentralized exchange, yield farming/liquidity mining protocol, DeFi governance tokens and DAOs, integration with traditional financial services. NFT modules to cover educational credential verification via NFTs, digital intellectual property management, NFT marketplace, brand engagement through tokenized assets. Also a brief discussion on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and regulatory frameworks, such as government digital currency implementation strategies, cross-border payment systems, monetary policy implications, etc.
