HIST 3334 - Britain and Its Empire, 1688-ca.1870Credits: 3 Class: 3 Lab: 0 Prerequisite(s): 060 core-area complete. This survey covers the period between the Glorious Revolution, and the height of the British Empire. The course begins with analysis of the political, social, and ideological implication of a constitutional settlement and traces social, military, and economic developments that are associated with the profound changes in Britain over the span of two centuries. Key themes covered include the (1) nature of the British constitution and politics; (2) religion; (3) trade and the rise and fall of the first colonial system; (4) industrial Britain; and (5) war, foreign policy and imperialism.
