HIST 3327 - Warfare in the Western World, 1648-1945

Credits: 3 Class: 3 Lab: 0
Prerequisite(s): HIST 1305 ; HIST 1306

This course examines how warfare affected society and culture in the Western World from the mid-17th to the mid-20th centuries, a period of state on state conflict. This period saw the rise of nation-states who made war against other nation-states. Not only was this a difference from the period that preceded it, but also from some of the Cold War and, even more prominently, the post-Cold War period in which non-state organizations have successfully waged war against nation-states, including the United States. The course will examine how and why wars occurred during the period, the effect of the evolution of technology on warfare and society, and the lasting effects of this period’s warfare on the entire world.
