Medical and Applied Health Communication Graduate Certificate

Certificate Requirements

The certificate requires the completion of 9 semester credit hours of graduate coursework taught by the Technical Communication and Communication Studies faculty.  To be awarded the certificate, students must complete two required courses and one prescribed elective, as enumerated below:

Required Courses

• TCOM 5304 - Foundations of Professional and Technical Communication (Note that students with two or more years of professional experience may substitute any of the prescribed electives for TCOM 5304,  so long as they have approval from the MSTC director).

• TCOM 5325 - Advanced Medical Writing

• or

• COMM 5302 - Health Messaging

3 SCH Prescribed Electives: Complete three semester credit hours from the following list:

• COMM 5302 - Health Messaging
• TCOM 3329: Environmental Writing (with permission from MSTC program director)
• TCOM 4306: Science Writing (with permission from MSTC program director)
• TCOM 5340 - Project Management
• TCOM 6310 - Intercultural and World Communication
• TCOM 6318 - Stylistics and Editing
• TCOM 6324 - Writing in the Professions Using Plain Language
• TCOM 6331 - Grant Writing for Nonprofit Management
