Program Description

Graduate certificates prepare students to increase their marketability to employers through focused learning. When the graduate certificate option is pursued, students may be required to complete preliminary work to adequately prepare the student to gain full benefit from the corporate-defined coursework. Upon successful completion of the graduate certificate, students are able to transfer all credits earned into the MBA program and the GMAT will not be required for MBA application.

Program Learning Outcomes

LO1: Students will describe the characteristics of capital markets and evaluate different financial assets traded in these markets

LO2: Students will analyze relevant financial market historical information using modern econometric tools and techniques

LO3: Students will value investments using appropriate statistical methods

LO4: Students will learn ethical principles, legal duties, and professional standards to make informed decisions

Admission Criteria

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.  Successful applicants will demonstrate potential for success via the required materials.

Admission requirements for Graduate Business Certificates are designed to identify applicants who have the ability, interest, and qualities necessary to complete the program, with the potential to contribute to the field of business based on the materials submitted. Prospective students who do not have an undergraduate degree in business may need to complete pre-requisite courses which will cover business fundamentals as part of their program.

Accounting Certificate Only: UHD does not require you to have an undergraduate degree in accounting, but you will need at least 15 hours of accounting coursework. Upon successful completion of the following courses, students are eligible for admittance into the Accounting Graduate Certificate (ACNT 1331, ACNT 1347, ACNT 2303, ACNT 2304, ACNT 2331).

  • 250-word Personal Statement detailing why you seek to pursue the business graduate certificate

Admission Process

The Executive Director of Graduate Business Programs Services ensures that the required materials are submitted and complete: personal statement, resume, and transcripts.  The Executive Director will forward applicant materials to the Faculty Director for final decision, which may be made in consultation with faculty reviewers.  Candidates whose work experience and academic history do not provide a clear conclusion may be asked to interview with a program director, and a final review and decision will be rendered by a committee led by the Faculty Director. The Executive Director will communicate with accepted applicants by sending a letter of admission and a letter of intent via email.  The Executive Director will communicate via email for applicants who are denied admission to the program or who may be recommended for a different pathway into the program.

The following link provides the appeal form for admissions decisions.  The Executive Director will process an applicant’s appeal request and the Faculty Director will make the final decision. The Graduate Programs Office will notify the student by email of the final decision.

Graduate Certificate Scheduling

Graduate certificate classes are offered one night a week over eight weeks, one course at a time.  Programs starting the fall which are comprised of either five or six classes will be completed during the summer term with the additional one-hour graduate colloquium course.
