Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates who earn a BA in English will be able to:
1. Critically analyze literary, cultural, or scholarly texts.
- Analyze, through close reading, aesthetic or rhetorical qualities of texts
- Distinguish characteristics, conventions, and techniques associated with various literary genres
- Examine texts in their historical and cultural contexts
- Categorize literary traditions of the United States, British, and global literatures
2. Synthesize textual examples, or synthesize techniques from models of creative writing, to compose original, college-level writing.
- Create written work without access to or influence of artificial intelligence
- Combine texts or techniques by means of a critical methodology or creative genre
3. Evaluate multiple sources to advance an original argument.
- Argue based on assessment of sources
- Interpret how sources engage in critical debates
