Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates who earn a BA in English will be able to:

1. Critically analyze literary, cultural, or scholarly texts.

  • Analyze, through close reading, aesthetic or rhetorical qualities of texts
  • Distinguish characteristics, conventions, and techniques associated with various literary genres
  • Examine texts in their historical and cultural contexts
  • Categorize literary traditions of the United States, British, and global literatures

2. Synthesize textual examples, or synthesize techniques from models of creative writing, to compose original, college-level writing.

  • Create written work without access to or influence of artificial intelligence
  • Combine texts or techniques by means of a critical methodology or creative genre

3. Evaluate multiple sources to advance an original argument.

  • Argue based on assessment of sources
  • Interpret how sources engage in critical debates

 

Degree Requirements


To complete a BA in English with a concentration in Film Studies, students must satisfy the “Requirements for CHSS Majors ” and fulfill the coursework listed below.

Preparatory Lower-Level Requirements

6-8 SCHs of Foreign Language:


Complete 6-8 semester credit hours in the same foreign language. Semester credit hours are contingent upon placement exams, courses taken, or transfer credit. Semester credit hours bypassed by placement must be made up in elective credits. Hours earned in excess of three semester credit hours for any foreign language course may be applied to the elective area.
