GEOL 3403 - Atmospheres of the Earth and Planets

Prerequisite(s): Credit for PHYS 1307 /PHYS 1107  or PHYS 2401 /PHYS 2101 , and CHEM 1307 /CHEM 1107 .
This course details the workings of Earth’s atmosphere with a focus on Humanity’s impact on the atmosphere, including air pollution and climate change. In the laboratory portion of the class, students get hands-on experience collecting and analyzing atmospheric data. Earth’s atmosphere is compared with those of other Solar System bodies including Venus, Mars, Saturn’s moon Titan and the Jovian Planets. Current theories on the origin of planetary atmospheres are investigated.
