CHEM 4340 - General Biochemistry ICredits: 3 Class: 3 Lab: 0 Prerequisite(s): BIOL 1102 and BIOL 1302 and CHEM 2101 and CHEM 2301 . Overview of fundamental biochemical principles, topics, techniques and analytical methods that integrates concepts from previous biology and chemistry courses to the study of biological macromolecules. Emphasis is placed on the bioorganic chemistry and techniques needed to critically and objectively analyze biological molecules and the fundamental processes that support life. Specifically protein, lipid and membrane structure and function, enzymatic catalysis and kinetics are emphasized.
