The Vision of the Program is to create a community that heals, nurtures, and enhances wellbeing for all people. The program goals are: - Model a caring and collaborative educational environment where students, faculty, and staff are valued for their strengths, background, and life experiences.
- Provide opportunities for students to gain awareness of their thoughts and feelings and critically reflect on their alignment with social work values.
- Equip future social workers for anti-oppressive practice and leadership in diverse communities through innovative classroom practice and learning.
- Nurture intellectual curiosity, demystify graduate education, and promote community through professional organizations for life-long learning and service.
Accreditation The Social Work Program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Program Competencies Graduates who earn a BSW will be able to: - Demonstrate Ethical and Professional Behavior

Degree Requirements
The Bachelor of Social Work requires a minimum of 120 hours. For degree completion, at least 30 hours in the degree must be completed in residence at UHD. A minimum grade point average of 2.5 both at UHD and in the Social Major, and a grade of C or better in all Social Work courses are required for graduation. Students accepted into the program must meet with the Social Work advisor during the first semester, and at least once each semester thereafter, to develop and review their official Degree Plan. Students should note that many Social Work courses must be taken in sequence and may not be available every semester. General Education Requirements
Common Core Requirements (42 hours)
See listing under Common Core Requirements in this Catalog. It is recommended that for the Common Core, Behavioral Science requirement, a student take one of the following courses: ANTH 2302 , PSY 1303 , SOC 1303 , SOCW 2361 , or SOCW 2363 as each meets program requirements. If one of these courses is taken as part of the common core requirement, the student will have one additional free elective. Major Requirements (45 hours)

Electives are an important part of the degree program and should be selected in consultation with the Social Work advisor. The Social Work Program offers two courses, SOCW 2189 Preparation to Study Abroad and SOCW 2301 Introduction to Financial Coaching, that are open to non-majors and can be used as free electives. These electives may be taken from any department at any level, with the following restrictions: Developmental courses (ENG 1300 , MATH 0300 , and MATH 1300 ) do not apply to graduation requirements; If a student takes one of the following courses as part of their Common Core, Behavioral Science requirement, (s)he/they will have 21 hours of free electives: ANTH 2302 , PSY 1303 , SOC 1303 , SOCW 2361 , or SOCW 2363 . |
